FIDIC represents the interests of National Association of Consulting Engineers of which 95 countries are members. The organisation formal mission is as follows:
To improve the business climate and promote the interests of consulting engineering firms, globally and locally, consistent with the responsibility to provide quality services for the benefit of society and the environment.

FIDIC have provided Contracts to be used by Employers in the international construction sector since 1957. These are provided in English as the authentic contractual language and have been adopted worldwide by Employers representing Governments and the private sector .
In addition major funding Agencies including the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, African Development Bank and the Millennium Challenge Corporation have adopted the FIDIC Contracts for their construction Contracts.
In September 1999 FIDIC introduced a new suite of Contracts for worldwide use & these are as follows:
These Contracts are those most suited to the 21st century international construction industry.
In December 2017, FIDIC have introduced the 2nd Edition Contracts for the Red, Yellow and Silver Books. These Contracts are substantially larger in volume (+80%) and hence more detailed and to some more complex.
FIDIC do not undertake training relating to their Contracts but have accredited selected suppliers. ECV is an accredited FIDIC training supplier, and undertakes the majority of training worldwide.
